If you smash a gas cylinder to the ground, will it blow up?

Gas cylinders are made very strong so they won't rupture easily.  Most collisions with earth will not rupture them but they can be burst in sufficient impacts with concrete, rock or steel structures.

    Wouldn't like to find out.

Nope. All my gas cylinders are empty.

    clunk. nothing.

I guess life is not like in the movies...

You can try it with an empty cylinder.  Say an empty fly spray can.  Which is a lot weaker than a gas cylinder. Can you damage that by throwing it to the ground?  Now remember that when the can is under pressure it is STRONGER because it is much harder to dent against that pressure.

Probably not, but don't push your luck!  If it does explode there will be many quite heavy pieces of jagged metal flying around very fast. They would cut you into pieces.

Depends but probably not.  More likely that it will puncture and the rapidly escaping gas will propel the tank somewhere, quite dangerously, but the tank itself will remain mostly intact (will not shatter from explosion).  The weak spot is usually at the valve.  If the gas is flammable and there is a spark source nearby, then sure, explosion becomes very likely.  the main problem is not an actual explosion but instead is the creation of a small metallic missile with no guidance control.

No, but if there's gas in it and the cylinder gets a hole in it, gas will flow out and the whole thing will get cold(er)

no it will have a blast if you smash it
