Would it be possible for a relative in another state to claim unwanted items that I want to donate as a tax deduction?

Technically, no, because your question says that you want to be the person who donates the items.

However, you could give the items to your relative, and then your relative could donate the items to charity and claim them as a tax deduction.

You only gt a deduction if you paid for th items, so  if they aren't yours to begin with,  YOU ar wrong

Of course.  And, if they were passed down to you and you don't want them, the right thing to do would be to offer them to other family members.  If it an item that you bought from a store, go ahead and donate it.
