Which is correct?

When you cool carbon dioxide enough, it changes (phase / its phase / phases) and you get dry ice.

Either "its phase" or "phases" would be correct.  You also need a comma after "phase" or "phases" whichever way you go.

    Personally, I like "phases" better.
