Centripetal force;  Fc= mv^2/ r 

coulomb force; Fem=kq1q2/r^2

derive a formula for calculating the velocity necessary to keep the electron in orbit.

(solve for 'v' using absolute values of charge)

    Fc = mv²/r

    v² = Fc r/m ............(1)

    Fem = kq₁q₂/r²

    r² = kq₁q₂ / Fem

    r = √(kq₁q₂ / Fem) ...(2)

    plug (2) in (1)

    v² = (Fc/m) [√(kq₁q₂ / Fem)]

    v = √ {(Fc/m) [√(kq₁q₂ / Fem)]}
