    In that sentence it is not entirely clear how 'on the limit' differs from 'in extreme leaning positions'.

    In general 'on the limit' means 'at the edge of' whatever conditions you are specifying.  On a car's tyres in Britain, you would say that they are 'on the limit' if their tread depth is only just over 1.6 millimetres. Lower than 1.6 mm is illegal.
