How tight should an oil painting be stretched around the canvas? ?

Should I hammer the wedges on each corner enough so there'll be about 2mm apart? And when I tap the painting with my finger, should I listen for a "musical note"? Also I want to put it in a wooden outer frame and I don't want it to move over the canvas.

Oh, not tightly at all. No way. Have it nice and loose so that, in the event you need a drink of water, say, you can carry water in it, or use it as a fishing net or something, or even a sail for a boat. Well, I hope to hell that helped.
