Explain what a deist is? This does not mean that they are atheist correct? ?

Deist: belief in the existence of a supreme being, specifically of a creator who does not intervene in the universe.
Atheist: lack of belief in the existence of any deities.
So they are not the same thing, are they.

A deist is someone who doesn't believe in the Bible, Quran, etc. but does believe that there is a creator or higher power out there somewhere who created the universe. Deists believe that the creator doesn't interfere or interact with humans or any other species, and simply leave us to do whatever we want.

That is correct. They are not the same as atheist.

It's the opposite of an atheist, who is someone who doesn't believe in religion. A deist believes in God.

A deist is a moron who thinks the Magic Man magically created the universe and then did nothing.

A deist is very similar to a refrigerator -- they both have their definitions in a dictionary. Atheist is also in a dictionary

A deist believes that a deity created the universe then left it to run on its own and has no further interaction with it.

"deist" derives from the Latin "Deus" (god)
so a deist believes in at least one god.
It's similar to "Theist", which comes from the Greek for god; a theist believes in at least one god.
"atheist" has the same root as "theist", but the "a" in front negates the rest of the word -- an atheist does not believe in any gods.

The short and sweet answer is that it posits that God's whatever person, force, or thing that started the universe, but it has had no role in it since.

As I understand it,
a deist believes in a creator deity
who has no interaction with,
and maybe even no interest in,
the operation of its created universe.
The evils of the world are not a result
of godly intention,
but of godly neglect.
Deists are not atheist.
Atheists tend to be more upbeat.
I think this is a deist's theme song.
"God's away on business."
