Let t be the time to home plate. We know 0.83m = ½*g*t² and Vx*t = 14.8m so

t = 14.8/Vx Substitute into first eq.0.83 = ½*g* (14.8/Vx)²

Vx² = 4.9*14.8²/0.83 = 36²

Vxi = Vx = 36m/s and is assumed constant neglecting air resistance.
