Can RCA audio go direct to a seperate entity than visual?

I'm wondering if you took the RCA visual(yellow) and plugged it into a TV, then plugged the audio cables into a seperate audio output such as speakers that arent connected to the TV itself, would the visual be available on the TV and the audio be available from the speakers without any problems?

Update:

More specifically: Say you have a projector that takes RCA input. Can you plug the video input to the projector alone without the audio inputs, and take the audio inputs and plug to a speaker via RCA female to 3.5mm without a problem?

What you need to do is

connect the RCA audio cables to inputs on a stereo system.

Powered speakers will do, too, if that's all you've got.
