No. They aren’t. They don’t protect us from a phony virus

Why don't you ask Trump and most of the White House staff, who are dropping like flies from Covid-19.

Yes, they are, if you're out in the open then yes. If you're in private no. If you have permission to take them off it's ok. But you shouldn't go out and about without a mask.

Masks only protect others if you wear it. They return the favor by wearing one for you. But you should only wear it on private property if they ask you to. Outside and out and about you really dont need one.

Masks are necessary nowadays not only due to the corona virus (which might be airborne), but also the increasing problem of air pollution. As much as possible, we should refrain from using fabric masks since they don't have filters.

This is not a question about Chemistry. If you want even more answers, move it to Medicine.

It depends on what you want to achieve. Masks are very effective limiters on the spread of airborne aerosols, so if you want to reduce the transfer of a contagion spread by airborne aerosols (like COVID19) then wearing a mask is a simple yet very effective thing for people to do. Or, we can all hide away alone for a couple of months or so, until there is no active virus in the population. Or we can all risk getting the disease. Seems that in the US, there are a lot of people who have no problem with spreading the disease that has caused the death of a couple hundred thousand people already, only nine months after the outbreak started. That does not strike me as a wise choice. Even if they, themselves, do not suffer adverse effects, they are contributing to the possible negative outcome of everyone that they come into contact with and pass on the contagion. Pretty selfish way to look at things in my opinion.

Ye, they reduce the amount of virus-particles that are passed on, and thus reduce the degree to which people get sick, and slow down the infections.
Without them our hospitals would be flooded with patients

Go to the nearest hospital and french kiss all the covid19 patients then you can tell me if masks and social distancing are necessary. = = If yu don't believe the medical experts then you should never go to a doctor for anything.
