-5, -6 – 7, - 8, -9, -10, -11, -12, -13, -14, -15, -16, -17

those that are nearer to – 4 are:- -5, -6 – 7, - 8, -9, -10,

-18 < x < -4

….. closer to -4 than -18

halfway between -18 and -4 is ½( -18 - 4 ) = -11

-11 < x < -4

….. number that fit this domain...

x = { -10, -9, -8, -7, -6, -5 }

so considering the given options -6 is the solution

and -6 is closer to -4 than it is to -18

-19 is less than -19, so we can throw that out.

-17 is in the range but is closer to -18.
