What’s the difference between New York and Chicago?

Like, for example, how can you tell that The Dark Knight was filmed in Chicago and not New York? What are some of the nuances in the buildings, the skyline, the street level, the architecture, etc?

Chicago has L trains. Easy to spot those in a movie. Chicago’s two main train stations look different form NYC’s main train stations.

Many key buildings are easy to spot. The Field Museum. science and industry museum, Bears Stadium, Willis Tower, 360 Chicago, Marina City.

There is the Chicago River running through Downtown Chicago. Lower Wacker Drive is recognizable.

You see the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty, you know you are not in Chicago.

There are a few things that I can spot that are unique to Chicago.

    - The "BMO Harris Bank" sign on one street sign: they don't operate in NY

    - NY has a different shape and alignment of traffic lights than Chicago

    - Chicago uses a different shape of fire hydrants than NY
