Why are British houses so drab ?

The colours of the houses almost matches the sky (cloudy grey). Also why do they all look the same these detached houses look awful and boring. Coming from Australia every house is unique and have different vibes and have a much more colourful exterior. I get that the UK land is restrictive but when you build new houses give it some life rather than having brown or grey carbon copies of each other.

America could cover Britain with trailer houses in a month, if they would only ask.  And we could come up with some way to stack them in a structural frame that would look very British.

I would answer this with another question. Why are there no Australian cities in the middle of Australia?

Brits are not known for being flamboyant.

UK has double the population that Aus has on a much smaller land mass, and building on green belt land is rarely granted permission. There is a serious shortage of housing for the lower income bracket, so the emphasis is on low cost building, hence the lack of individuality.

There are housing schemes which few would describe as drab, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Only a limited number of people live in individually designed houses, most are put up by builders, just as they did when Batty Langley produced his pattern books in the 18th century.  Bright colours wouldn't last five minutes in smoke filled cites where all the buildings turned uniformly black until the Clean Air Acts came in. Australia didn't have one million of its houses flattened by air raids in WW2 so it didn't have a a lot of mass housing which had to be rebuilt quickly and (by law) cheaply.

Look at the history of when and how and why they were built.

And google colorful houses in the U.K. there are some bright paint jobs.

And the English are know for their colorful gardens.

Because that is what the people who buy the houses want.

If you are so fond of Australia it is a wonder you didn't stay there.
