The basic cables are your power supply and the cable to your monitor. The monitor can be VGA. It can be HDMI. It can be anything. So what type of monitor do you have?

I assume that's what you mean. Because there's cables on the inside and the outside. The inside cables are very complicated. YOu're talking SATA cables, PSU cables, CPU cables.

With no details about some "PC", could be as simple as a charging adapter to hook to a laptop.

For a desktop, power cable, keyboard and cable, wired or wireless mouse, and monitor with cable connector and its power wire.

Adding more, like Internet, speakers and a printer may or may not involve more cables, depending upon wired or wireless connections.

Ask your son to give you all the cables,

    and, if possible,

have him connect them and make it work.
