A model car of mass 5kg slides down a frictionless ramp into a spring with constant k=4.9kN/m. ?

a) The spring experiences a max compression of 22cm. Determine the height of the initial release point.

b) Determine the max acceleration of the car after it hits the spring.

c) Find the speed of the model car when the spring has been compressed 15cm.

    a) GPE became SPE

    mgh = ½kx²

    5kg * 9.8m/s² * h = ½ * 4900N/m * (0.22m)² = 119 J

    h = 2.42 m

    b) a = F/m = kx / m = 4900N/m * 0.22m / 5kg = 216 m/s²

    c) GPE = SPE + KE

    119 J = ½ * 4900 * (0.15m)² + ½ * 5kg * v²

    v  = 5.0 m/s
