What do I look for when buying a used toyota hiace and what do I avoid?

I'm looking to buy a used toyota hiace but I don't know a lot about them. I'm not wanting to spend more than $5500. How many km is too many when buying a hiace? Is my budget too low? I'm not fussed about how it looks I just want a van that's gonna last me a few years. How do I make sure I'm getting a good deal?

Pay a mechanic to inspect it PRE purchase.

Full service history. Low miles and ideally one or two owners. Test drive thoroughly to check for faults and that everything works OK. Toyota build good cars that last if properly maintained.
