Why are Republicans abandoning Donald Trump when he needs them the most, Mitch McConnell and Ben Sasse? Holy backstabbing disloyalty?

"facepalm" they are leaving the trump cult before he stabs them in the back

There's been no "backstabbing" in any of this. Only fools are loyal to one who has never been loyal to them. Face it: The Trump cult is imploding.

because they realize hes more than willing to take them with him if he goes down, and they arent that willing to sacrifice themselves for Trump

Because they're loyal to the COUNTRY, as they should be, not to the PARTY, and certainly not to Trump.

Because he's hurting their chances for reelection.
The only reason they ever got on his bandwagon is because they thought doing so helped them. Once that changed, the bandwagon ended.
Of course, they also need the national party, so they won't get all the way off the wagon until it's unavoidable.

Very, very few GOP Congressional incumbents are inviting Trump to join their rallies or endorse them. There's a reason for that. Almost none of them want to be tied to Trump or his legacy in any way whatsoever. Watch the teevee ads for your local GOP incumbent. Notice how few of them mention Trump at all!! Can't blame 'em, really. Since the elections of 2018, only about 30% of all the candidates Trump has endorsed have gone on to win. Trump is toxic and everybody knows it.
