Will a smart speaker work in my dorm wifi?

so I live on off campus student housing and we have a wifi router in our apartment but im wondering if its worth getting a smart speaker since im not sure if it will be able to connect to the wifi...I remembered last year I got a google smart speaker and I wasn't able to connect it and atm im kinda of interested in buying the HomePod mini but obviously I want to know if it will work for me or not.

for those who are living in the dorms do you have smart speaker?

This has nothing to do with the fact that you live in a dorm. "Dorm Wi-fi" is no different from any other Wi-fi. Your problems with your Google speaker were most likely due to one of five factors:

1.) Failure to follow setup directions correctly

2.) Insufficient signal strength / interference

3.) VLAN isolation (devices on the network aren't allowed to talk to each other)

4.) Using a "captive portal" that requires authentication over HTTP(S). Since the device cannot authenticate or agree to anything, it fails.

5.) Using an outdated / unsupported security protocol, or in an invalid configuration.

Most of the scenarios are described here:
