When a bushfire approaches your home, why is it advised to fill sinks, baths and roof gutters with water?

    Who the FORK listens to those head cases? Considering all the water lines are 4 feet in the ground they are out of reach of any fire.  It will take forever to fill a gutter as it all drains out.

    Well I suppose you could fill them with oil or petrol if you wanted.

    But water has a pretty good record in fire prevention.

    You can jump in the tub and super-saturate your clothes to avoid burning. {Maybe even just stay in the tub of water.}

    The fire is afraid of water. It may avoid your house entirely if it is full of it's natural predator

    The chances of the water supply failing are high.
