This is probably a dumb question but, can websites delete files on your computer hard drive?

Is it possible that websites you visit in your browser, can delete files on your hard drive.

Yes, it is highly possible, if given the right permissions. All it takes is for a remote script to get activated by say, a mouse click, for it to happen.

They should be able to delete things like cookies etc related to that site.

If the site is something more complex like google or Microsoft office sites they would have more access (I use plex and it can delete server files but only when allowed).

In general no but if you allow them or they use some exploit then yes.

No. A website can't do that. Malware loaded ON a website can, however.

Only through, Ransom Ware. If you keep good backups, on separate media, you are relatively, safe!

Only for data specific to that site, such as local storage of a saved online game.
