Lincoln was born and raised in Kentucky, so amongst the good traits of Southerners, he learned some of the bad: that the black race was inferior to the white and that a good black man was servile and a bad black man savage.  The lessons learned in childhood are always in you, even when you learn later how false some of them are.

But Lincoln did not hold that bigotry all his life. He came round to Frederick Douglass's views that 1) the black man could and would fight well in combat if it was for his freedom and 2) the black citizens could and would be good for America, given the chance to become free and full citizens. The majority were not helpless and stupid.  He intended that black veterans have the vote, and said as much in the "victory speech" he gave at the end of the war.

Lincoln was no more racist than many Americans of his time were. He was criticized by newspapers and colleagues for discussing matters with Frederick Douglass as though Douglass was a man worth listening to. He gave the order to raise black combat troops - reluctantly and had them under the control of white officers - but he gave it and he was impressed by how well they fought as soldiers. Lincoln went further along the path than New York newspaper editor Horace Greeley advised him to go and further than any previous President had gone.

Theodore Roosevelt was charged in the press with violating the sanctity of the White House by inviting a black man to be his dinner guest. I don't know if the man was George Washington Carver or Booker T  Washington, but the man was well known, black and an American, yet America made such a stink about it that TR didn't invite any more Americans of color into the American Presidents' House.

So the American people were more racially bigoted than two of their Presidents. And both those Presidents were politically astute enough to pamper the voters' racism in order to defend the union of the United States  [and what would the Confederate nation do for the Blacks but keep them enslaved had it won the war?] (Lincoln) and carry out some needed populist and antitrust measures (TR)

He was not a racist. Otherwise he would not have hated and abolished slavery.

at least he was known for being racist due to his hatred for Native American Indians, the original owners of North America, until the white barbarian hordes attacked and conquered their land

Abe  freed the slaves for purely political reasons and never said that blacks and whites were equal.

In fact he is recorded as saying they were not and should never be equal.

Apparently Abraham Lincoln did own a slave before he became President and also believed black people were inferiors to whites and should not have the same rights as a white person.  Whether he was one of the most racist presidents is up for debate but there is no doubt he thought they should be kept as an underclass.

You are spinning the truth, Biden said," Abraham Lincoln here", referring to President trump, "is one of the most racist Presidents we've had in modern history." He was making fun of trump when trump said weeks ago, he was least racist President in US history except maybe for Abe Lincoln.
