Is quad core cpu obsolete for the next generation of pc games?

In regards to AAA titles, high demanding games, etc. is 4 cores a thing of the past? If so, what will be the minimum standards for next gen?

PC games don't have "generations." For that matter, there's no standard for what constitutes a "AAA" game, either. It will probably be several years before all major new titles drop quad-core support. The current 11th-gen Intel line has several mainstream quad-core processors, like the Core i7-1160G7. There's no way in hell developers are going to refuse to support it. Many games rely more on the GPU than the CPU, and will happily run even on a dual-core.
