Do self taught programmers who managed to get a job from it lack something that degree holders usually have?

Maybe with a Uni degree people get more in-depth teaching or learn something that most self-taught programmers don't learn on their own. Please explain for me :)

Also, not trying to become a self-taught programmer just curious as a I see sometimes people on reddit say they got a job without going the Uni route.
