Are solid body electric guitars supposed to sound loud and hollow like an acoustic guitar without a sound hole?

Update:

When not plugged into a amplifier

    They could.

No, you can hardly even hear them when not plugged into an amp.

There are a few hollow or semi-hollow bodied guitars that look like solid body guitars with no f holes or anything such as the Godin acoustic-electric series, but even those won't sound nearly as loud as an acoustic guitar.

No. They certainly don't sound loud - it's the amplification that does that. I'm not really sure what sounding “hollow” means. A solid bodied electric guitar doesn't sound like an acoustic  one though.

No.  If they do, they're not solid body guitars.
