Why are people rude to all panhandlers ?

Even ones who really are in a situation where they're very scared and very uncomfortable? Is it because they don't want you to get used to the habit? If you really do need help you should go to a police station or homeless shelter and ask them about any kind of social services that can help you, rather than treating people like they're cash machines responsible for financially helping you?

I used to be pestered trying to walk to my office . . . . then a new panhandler arrived with a new pitch:  "For a dollar I won't smash you in the face".  That's when I got my tear gas, stun gun and now concealed carry permit  -  amazing how quickly those "unfortunates" regain their senses when facing reality.
