Which source should I use to understand polar bear numbers?

Should I read:

1. Zoologist Dr. Susan Crockford who did PhD work in polar bears

2. Journalist Rachel Weisel writing "fact checks."

None, rate of births is all one needs to look at.  We already know that rate of births is natures way of keeping things in balance. In lean times, the rate drops. In good times, the rates increase. Just in my lifetime polar bears have gone from averaging one cub, to two.
