They are open.  Who do you think fills all of those thousands of Burlington Northern Railroad cars owned by Warren Buffett that show up on the West Coast every day.  They put the coal on ships to China where it is burned with no emission controls.  Where do you think all that coal comes from at power plants in North Dakota, Chicago, Wyoming and Four Corners that powers all the lights in major cities.  They are switching to natural gas as fast as they can.  The problem is pipelines and not supply.  Natural gas will put an end to the nonsense of solar and wind energy.  The U.S has enough natural gas for centuries.  We will even run lines to Europe.

Because some people are too stubborn to find other employment. The man who can adapt to changing circumstances will always find work. The man who tries to stay in the same obsolete profession will make himself poor and bitter.
