You begin with a false premise. Your question implies that most people who visit Mount Everest die. That's just an absurd claim. Firstly, not everyone who visits Mount Everest is there to climb it. Many people go there just to see it, or they simply limit themselves to doing a less strenuous, less dangerous climb, only ascending to a certain point before turning back. Secondly, according to statistics, roughly 5,000 people have summited Mount Everest and roughly 300 people have died trying. That means that 94 percent of the people who have summited Mount Everest have survived. If doing something involves a 94 percent survival rate, it doesn't sound all that risky, does it?

Because it is a fun Challenge----where they COULD die, pr reach the top, but probably will NOT die---or ever reach the top.

These days they probably won't die.
The odds of dying climbing the world's highest mountain are much lower than they once were.
the proportion of those who climb above base camp that die - has fallen to below 1%. Inexperienced younger climbers is more like 2%.

Even though Mount Everest isn't the most difficult peak to climb, it certainly is extremely tricky. Most people climb it for the challenge and the satisfaction of completing it.

After a quick Google search, apparently the death rate for climbers of Mt. Everest is <1%. So you aren't probably going to die.

Because while people do die on Everest, most people come through just fine.

The most common reason given for climbing Everest: "Because it's there."
