Pole Vaulting: Length of poles in competitions?

Question

Can the vaulters choose whatever length they want? I presume the longer the pole, the higher the jump and the one with the longest pole has the biggest advantage? 

So is the pole length limited by the rules? Maybe relative to the height of the bar?
