Do bees need to be sick in order to produce honey?

Sick bees cannot produce honey because nectar needs to be gathered and brought back to the hive to make honey.

Bees don't get sick, they do get lethargic and can't forage for pollen, that is what the bees make honey from. This may happen a bit before their life expires.
Good news is bee populations are growing again.
No, bees only drink nectar for their own sustenance, not involved in honey production.

Worker-bees suck nectar and then regurgitate the honey when back in the hive

If you mean vomit then kind of. A decent bit of honey is bee spit. Bees will spit the pollen into each others mouths until the honey is ready.
