Have you ever heard of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic (1912)?  World War 1 (1914-8)?  The Russian revolution & civil war (1917-23)?  The "Spanish'flu'" pandemic (1918-23)?

In Milwaukee 1912 was when indoor toilets became part of the city ordinances.  Prior to that people had outhouses on the property.   Flush toilets and plumbing systems/sewage pipes were installed citywide.  It made major changes in sanitation in a growing city.

That depends on where one lived and at what age. It wasn't terribly interesting if you were a kid caught in the middle of the Mexican Revolution.
