Black or very dark gives the impression you live in a dark small HOLE.  The room looks smaller.  Black shows dirt dust which is a light grey so you do not win.  If it is gloss black then it shows all the "wows" or wobbles in the wall.  Just as it shows on a black car.  You see every ding in it.  At night with the lights off, all the walls are black no matter what color you paint them.
