why do we not need to enter a pin number when using a credit card at the store ?

it seems less secure. Can you request to your credit card company to use a pin number for all purchases?

Because you are not withdrawing cash from your own account, you are borrowing money, and because there are other protections in place for fraudulent use of your credit card.

Some credit card companies will provide a pin, but you do have to request it, usually. I am not sure even if you did so if you would have to use the pin every time or not. Probably not, considering that could eliminate your ability to use the card online for shopping or anything where a pin cannot be used.

That's how credit cards work in Europe.
