Is a criminal held responsible if a police officer loses their life chasing them ?
supposing a criminal is stopped for a minor crime by a cop, they make a run and the cop chases after the criminal but is hit by a car crossing the road and dies, does the criminal get charged for the unintentional death of the cop?

Yes
Felony rule. - If someone dies as a result of you committing a felony, your guilty of murder. Example, you rob a bank and a cop accidently shoots a bank employee. You would be guilty of murder.
Running from the police in a car is a felony.

It is possible. The scenario you describe sounds like a wanton endangerment charge (first degree felony). The fleeing suspects may have had no intention of harming the police officer but their reckless actions put the police officer and anyone nearby at perilous danger. Ultimately only a judge and/or a jury can answer this question.
