Why are antidepressants prescribed for PTSD?

PTSD is not depression. Antidepressants are for depression.

Speaking about medical literature only, the humans who have been studied with PTSD all had depression.  PTSD is an anxiety disorder with a core symptom of depression.  So because people are not stupid it is prescribed.  Now I am not a fan of meds but you did not ask.

These drugs can help with anxiety, which is very common with PTSD. Also, there's no reason why someone with the disorder can't be depressed.
