What does that button on the doorknob do?
what does it do? Does it lock the door? Because when I open it, it releases and doesn't lock
Might be a dumb question but had to ask.

It is interesting that you thought enough about this to think it was stupid but not enough to try it and figure it out.

You can't lock yourself IN, but you can lock others OUT! Notice that the outside knob won't turn if the lock is set.
You don't seem to have much logic. Or you're just practicing your English, just like most foreign trolls.

The button is on the inside - when you press it nobody can open the door from the outside except with a key. You can easily release it from within in an emergency without a key. This is why it is popular in hotels.

It's often called a privacy lock. When you use it the door won't open from the other side, thus preventing someone from barging in on you by mistake. It stops the outside knob from turning. Often used for bathrooms, toilets or bedrooms, for obvious reasons. When you open the door again from the inside, yes, it will release.

Yes it does lock. I have a door knob where you push the button and it locks and you just turn the handle and it unlocks, but if you want to lock it again you have to push that button.

It locks the doorknob on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the door.
