Obama gave Putin permission to go into a Middle Eastern war zone. He did this after Obama decided not to take Assad out. Our allies were ready and it was a last second decision. Putin went in there with another definition of what a terrorist was. And the result was the largest refugee crisis the West has seen in modern times. Iran backs Assad too. Obama gave billions to Iran (along with European partners). So the sides are clearer to see than they otherwise would be.
