I'm fine banning legal marriage and switching to civil unions for all.

The roots of marriage are religious and some people object to same-sex or trans marriage.   Send marriage back to the religious institutions like other religious ceremonies and let them do them how they want.

Government can regulate civil union contracts instead.

As far as Christmas goes, I find it hard to believe that even people who don't care about Christmas want to give up a paid holiday.    Maybe we should rename it Giftmas.
