    Marijuana is not illegal everywhere.

It is worth pointing out that in NOT ONE STATE where it is legal is the age to buy it the magic 1-8.

Marijuana laws are becoming more and more lenient and I believe for the same reason tobacco is still being sold. The answer is in two simple words:

TAX REVENUE...that's right. But the killer is that we all KNOW the terrible health risks of smoking or chewing tobacco, but the government turns their heads while making billions a year on taxation. So, as usual, it boils down to greed and money.

The health care industry, primarily the insurance and drug companies do not want tobacco banned because there are billions of dollars to be made off the backs of all of us as we pay higher insurance premiums and health care costs to pay for the health effects for those who smoke. And, there are added addictive ingredients in tobacco to keep people from quitting. It is a scam, right before our very eyes...but our government does not care, as long as the money keeps rolling in.

Because Marijuana is so prevalent and the jails were filling up with non violent people with marijuana convictions, it was more profitable to control people using it by taxing Marijuana sales. Plus, dispensary businesses pay taxes to operate, so it is a financial win. And that is why the laws have changed pertaining to Marijuana sales and use. They even got the doctors in on it by allowing them to issue Marijuana prescriptions.

All the while, Marijuana is still a federal crime! So, go figure...it is illegal to make Marijuana legal but it is still legal anyway.

So, when something does not make sense, there is a reason. And in the case of Marijuana and tobacco sales, the bottom line is money. As freaking usual.

Edit...in some areas, you can grow your own Marijuana, but there may be limitations on the quantity of plants that you are permitted to grow. It is crazy that a natural plant has restrictions for private use. Next thing you know, we are going to be taxed on our vegetable gardens!

The founding fathers were plantation owners who grew tobacco and sisal. Hemp was a competitor to sisal in the hot rope making industry of the day. So then as now politicians were just protecting their own personal interests.

Nicotine has relatively mild mind altering effects. THC, much more so. And there  was a time before WWII, when they were both legal.

It became associated with Mexicans and a small crime wave among the Mexicans. MJ was found on the perps when captured. And this was blown into a big thing by the Hearst newspapers. Contributing to federals laws against MJ in 1937.

This is at least part of the reason pot is illegal. Before 1914 all drugs were uncontrolled. Including Heroin.
