Flying helps birds get away from animals that want to eat them, and makes them better hunters, too. Flying also helps them travel from cold places to warm places, called migration (my-GRAY-shun). Let’s talk about aerodynamics (air-oh-die-NAM-icks).

Fledgling bodies are made to fly. They have light bones, solid legs, and extraordinarily molded wings. Flying assists fowls with moving ceaselessly from creatures that need to eat them, and improves them trackers, as well. Flying additionally encourages them go from cold spots to warm places, called movement. So, birds can fly.

Ostriches. kiwis and penguins do not fly, and all three are birds.  The same was true of dodos.

Birds have feathers, lay eggs, and their four limbs are two legs/two wings.  Beaks.

Penguins are birds... they don't fly (in the air).

Ostriches, Kiwi and Emus are birds... neither fly...

So, it is possible to have birds without flying.

Birds fly because they can't afford the fares that the railroads charge. BTW, not every bird flies.
