The problem with questions like yours is that there's seldom a budget listed.
The best type of camera to use for sports is a DSLR.
The best models of DSLR for sports are the Nikon D6 and the Canon 1Dx. Both cameras sell for $6,500 for the body only.
If you're looking to actually buy and not just asking because you're curious, the next best camera models that are more affordable are the Nikon D850, Canon 7D Mark II or 5D Mark IV.
Of course, as with anything sports related, the lenses are unique and very expensive, too.

What sport? Are you doing extreme sports and want to record what you're going through? The best would be a point-of-view (POV) camera strapped on to your body or helmet like the GoPro.
You want to take photos as an spectator? Get a dSLR or mirrorless camera with the longest focal length lens you can find with the lowest f/number you can afford. The farther away your target, the more mm your lens should be. Basketball and volleyball will do with 200mm but for football and baseball, you'll need at least 400mm. For shooting surfers in the water with you far away at the beach, you'll need a monster like a 1000mm lens. As for speed, indoor sports would discourage the use of flash so you would benefit with a lower f/numbered lens, at least f/2.8. Even when outdoors, a fast lens would be beneficial in freezing action allowing you to capture the "exact moment".
