What would happen if the offside rule in soccer was removed?
At some point in the game there was no offside rule.

You'd have more long balls and 'cherry-picking' where lazy attackers would stand way up the pitch. A defender obviously would have to mark him. This opens up the midfield and encourages less creative attacks.
The original NASL used an offside line 35 yards from goal as a compromise. It allowed aging players to extend their playing careers by not having to run as much.

The world would implode. We’ve seen many times what happens when they mess with the offside rule. Utter chaos.

Basically the forwards would push further up the pitch. There has always been a version of the offside rule in football though. The first rules in 1863 had a version of the offside rule in them.
