While "There are other serious illnesses apart from Covid" and "There are other serious illnesses beyond Covid" have the same meaning, they would be better as: "There are other serious illnesses besides Covid ".

Yes, there are, but nothing else is killing 3000-4000 people a day in the US alone. If you're writing something to claim that COVID is not serious, don't. Your readers aren't going to take it well.
