How about a natural mutation of the USA origin virus that a USA sports team released in China on Trump's orders to destroy the Chinese economy, but which backfired when the virus made it's way back to the USA. Given the four year ineptitude of the Trump administration, that's just as likely as the virus being Chinese origin.

Every year the flu vaccine has been tweaked to deal with the latest mutations, strains which have happened in previous year, because that is what viruses do.
