Why have I gained weight yet after measuring my waist it is definitely on the small side/lower than average for my height?

I've been working an extremely physical job for a long time now, could my evident weight increase be due to gaining muscle? I'm a bit confused because when I measure my waist it's on the small side or in other words, definitely lower than the average for my height.

Muscle weighs more than fat so if you're doing a job where you're physically active and appear to be losing weight visually but not when you step on a scale, that's most likely why.
