A bullet (12g) is fired towards the right from a handgun(0.6kg). The speed of the bullet is 340 m/s, find the recoil velocity of the gun.?

    Taking right as positive, conserve momentum:

    0 = 12g * 340m/s + 600g * V

    V = -6.8 m/s → → the sign indicates "to the left." You might not need it in your answer.

    Conservation of momentum shall apply :

    12*0.34 = V*(0.60+0.012)

    recoil velocity V = 12*0.34 / (0.60+0.012) = 20/3 of m/sec
