duplicate of same channels?

Question

through my local cable provider, I have two or three "networks" that have like several duplicate channels. for example i have like 9-10 of the same "NBA league pass" or "NHL center ice" is there any reason for this?

Multiple channels to show different games playing at the same time.

I've never had these channels, but it's probably to broadcast multiple games happening at the same time on different channels.
