Should I tell my family that I’m an alcoholic?

My extended family don’t know.  My mum says it’s no one else’s business.

I wish you had given your age, but assuming you're an adult, why are you discussing this with your mum?  YOU are the one who decides what to say, when to say it and to whom you say it.  It's an important part of an alcoholics journey and these are very personal choices. Also, when you say extended family, you don't necessarily have to include the whole group.  If there's one or 2 people you trust to keep it quiet, but you feel strongly you want to tell them, there's no reason not to.
