Your question is incomplete because you do not state the first currency. Is it Australian, canadian, Euro, etc. dollars? There is no English currency but there is a British one.
Having decided on your two currencies there are online tools you can search for that will tell an approximate conversion rate. I say approximate because what you would actually get can vary from day to day, even hour to hour and depending on where and with whom you exchange your money.
I do not know is Matthew was demonstrating ignorance in his answer or made a failed attempt at being funny. If talking about the British currency which is correctly called pounds sterling the symbol used is £ and it is placed before the numbers, e.g. £10.87 is ten pounds and eighty-seven pence. The symbol used by Matthew, lb, refers to the pound that is a unit of weight.

Many countries have dollars. Pick one and look up today's exchange rate online. It changes all the time.

It depends on what you mean by "dollars."
$50 CAD is 28.73 GBP.
$50 USD is 36.53 GBP.
$50 HKD is 4.71 GBP.
It all depends on which dollar you use.
