Living in the tropics.  "Not getting cold in the first place" works pretty well for preventing dangerously low body temperature.  Other than us and Neanderthals, most primates live in nice warm places.

One mechanism is heat production through muscle contraction. our bodies have large amounts of skeletal muscle that give off heat when we move them. Shivering is our natural response to lower body temperatures. The heat produced is picked up by the blood and transferred around the body to our vital organs.

Other responses to low core temperatures- increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, increased respiratory rate, paler (tighter skin), vasoconstriction of blood vessels.
